As much as some people may want to deny it, dating apps are effective — and they’re here to stay. So, we may as well use them to our advantage. In this guide, I’ll be diving into the best sites in the dating app space. Whether you’re looking for the Kristen Bell to your Dax Shepard, a springtime fling, or proof that you can find love again after divorce, there’s a dating app to help you find it. And, if you’re lucky, your person may just be on a site on this list. Let’s get started. Navigate This Article: Best Overall LGBTQ+ Dating Senior Hookups FAQs Best Overall Sites for Online Dating The dating platforms in this category check the most boxes for the largest group of people. Explore this myriad of options and discover what makes each of them rise above the rest. 1. Match 4.9/ 5.0 OUR RATING Visit Site » Relationships: Friends, Dates, and Relationships Match System: Browse by zip, age, appearance, more Our Experts Say: “Match pairs a large dating pool with search filters specific enough to make that size useful rather than overwhelming.” Our Review » Browse Free: View Photos Now User Base Gender Ratio Popularity (Visits/Mo.) Today’s Deal All Singles 55% 45% 14.6 Million Try Match FREE Earning the top spot on our list is one of the dating app greats, Match. Initially popular for helping middle-aged singles and divorcées find love, this nearly 30-year-old dating platform has evolved into one of the most successful and highest-grossing sites in the space, now attracting romance seekers of all ages, backgrounds, and demographics. Match has succeeded at bringing thousands of couples together per year with its user base of more than 39 million people and an intelligent matchmaking algorithm. That said, if you’re at the point in your dating journey where you’re ready to find your person, your boo thang, or your long-time lover, Match may just be the choice for you. 2. eharmony 4.8/ 5.0 OUR RATING Visit Site » Relationships: Casual Dates, Deep Relationships Match System: Personality test suggests matches Our Experts Say: “eharmony helps relationship-minded singles meet compatible people who share their values and long-term outlook.” Our Review » Browse Free: View Photos Now User Base Gender Ratio Popularity (Visits/Mo.) Today’s Deal All Singles 48% 52% 4.1 Million View Profiles FREE We’re coming in hot with another dating app OG: eharmony. Launched in 2000 just a few years after Match, this digital space has similarly made a name for itself as a resource for serious singles looking for long-term love. The app says “No thanks” to the modernized “swiping” technique and, instead, creates matches strictly based on compatibility. During the sign-up process, users are required to answer an 80-item questionnaire to provide the algorithm with insights into their interests, lifestyle habits, communication styles, and dating preferences. The interface then presents you with a handful of matches to peruse, all of which come with a compatibility score based on your questionnaire and that of the user you match with. In other words, your compatibility score will change depending on the match. The questionnaire may be lengthy, but if you’re looking for a more logical, less surface-level approach to dating, the time investment may be worth it. And the site has more than 2 million couples who can attest to its effectiveness. 3. OkCupid Following the theme of the previous three platforms, OkCupid is a free dating app that uses a questionnaire to help serious daters find their person. Although much shorter — with only 15 items total — the questionnaire is designed to extract information about a user’s values, interests, and dating goals. Source: okcupid. OkCupid users particularly enjoy how the platform allows them to rank the importance of each item on the questionnaire, as well as a set of dealbreakers for the algorithm to consider during the matchmaking process. 4. Tinder Tinder is probably the most well-known dating app across the entire globe, regardless of demographic. Whether it’s a monk in Burma, a priest in Ireland, or a surfer in Nicaragua — chances are, they’ve all heard of Tinder. The platform’s integration of the swipe feature is its claim to fame since the app introduced the feature in 2012. But Tinder continues to hold a high spot in the rankings despite the massive increase in dating app competitors that have come in its wake. The interface is easy to use, comes with just enough free features, and touts a monthly active user base of more than 75 million people. Source: Tinder. One thing to keep in mind is this: Tinder is known by many as a hookup app, but this doesn’t have to be your experience. Be clear and upfront about your dating goals, invest the time, and stay hopeful. Plenty of couples have found the happily-ever-after they were looking for by doing the very same. 5. Bumble Bumble is basically the Sadie Hawkins Dance of the online dating world. In other words, this swiping-based platform is designed so that women are required to send the first message after a match is made. Source: Bumble. As a woman, I can’t tell you how much safer and more empowered this makes me feel throughout the vetting process. Not only do I have more control over the direction of the conversation between myself and my match, but I also feel more at ease knowing that I’m part of a community built by women for women. It may sound dramatic, but little changes like this go a long way. 6. Hinge Similar to Bumble, this next contender wanted to build on the swiping approach of Tinder by adding a special twist. In addition to browsing the profiles of nearby matches, Hinge users are allowed to drop hearts or leave comments on another user’s photos or text prompts without having to match with them first. This provides an opportunity to put your chemistry to the test before taking that next step forward. Source: Hinge. Hinge is well-known as a great choice for singles who want to take their online dating experience a bit more seriously. However, you can also find FWBs, wedding dates, short-time flings, and other types of relationships on the platform. 7. Jdate If you’re Jewish, single, and ready to mingle, you should give JDate a try. The platform was launched in 1997 by entrepreneurs Alon Carmel and Joe Shapira to help Jewish singles find love in their tight-knit communities. And, according to recent reports, it works pretty darn well.
